Thoughts - Collection of Paulo Coelho

“You may have great skill with the instrument you choose for your livelihood, but it us useless, if you cannot command the mind which uses that instrument.”

A rose longed for the company of the bees, but noone would come to her. Even so, the flower was still capable of dreaming. When she felt all alone, she would imagine a garden filled with bees that came to kiss her. And so she managed to resist until the next day, when she opened her petals again.
“Aren’t you tired?” another rose asked her.
“No. I have to go on fighting.”
“Why?”
“Because if I don’t open up, I wither.”

·          We are born with the fear of falling & the fear of loud noises. All other fears are acquired

·          Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself

      ·          Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain

·          Marriage is a recognition of a spiritual identity. When you make the sacrifice in marriage, you’re sacrificing not to each other but to unity in a relationship
·
Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls

·          What make people weak? Their need for validation and recognition

·          To say "no" is not a sin. To say "yes" is not a virtue. Beware: time goes by and regrets may be lethal

·          You are free, but you have to choose something. My mother used to say: "an open oven bakes no bread"

·          You are not defeated when you lose. You are defeated when you quit

·          Sometimes, certain of God's blessings arrive by shattering all the windows

·          It is Doubt that makes us grow because it forces us to look fearlessly at the many answers that exist to one question

·          The absence of an answer is an answer by itself

·          ALWAYS chose the road less taken

·          Don't worry. Nothing wrong with looking like a fool if what you are doing is far from foolish

·          When life hits you hard, don't complain. Cry out loud, curse, but don't complain. You are not a victim

·          Live passionately, with all the injuries that can happen as a result: it is worth it

·          To get something for nothing is normally very costly

·          If it's still in your mind, it is still in your heart

·          Don't ask permission. If it does not work, you can apologize later

·          It is easy to be a hater. Go for the difficult task: be a lover

      ·         You cannot avoid pain, but you can chose to overcome it

      ·          Love perseveres. It’s people who change.

.    Anyone who love in the expectation of being loved in return is wasting their            time. Love for the sake of love itself

.    Reason is afraid of defeat, but Intuition enjoys challenges

.     We can sell our time, but we can’t buy it back again

.    Things pass, and the best we can do is to let them really go away

.    Before a new chapter is begun, the old one has to be finished

  • Friendship… is not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.
  • A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.
  • Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.
  • I never thought of losing, but now that it’ s happened, the only thing is to do it right. That’s my obligation to all the people who believe in me. We all have to take defeats in life.
  • I’m so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark.
  • If they can make penicillin out of mouldy bread, they can sure make something out of you.
  • It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.
  • It’s just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.
  • It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.
  • I hated every minute of training, but I said, “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”
  • Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee

Short storries:

"Those wounded in love, unlike those wounded in armed conflict, are neither victims nor torturers. They chose something that is part of life, and so they have to accept both the agony and the ecstasy of their choice.
And those who have never been wounded in love will never be able to say: “I have lived”. Because they haven’t."

"A father was trying to read the newspaper, but his little son kept pestering him.
Finally, the father grew tired of this and, tearing a page from the newspaper – one that bore a map of the world – he cut it into several pieces and handed them to his son. ‘Right, now you’ve got something to do. I’ve given you a map of the world and I want to see if you can put it back together correctly.’ He resumed his reading, knowing that the task would keep the child occupied for the rest of the day.
However, a quarter of an hour later, the boy returned with the map. ‘Has your mother been teaching you geography?’ asked his father in astonishment. ‘I don’t even know what that is,’ replied the boy. ‘But there was a photo of a man on the other side of the page, so I put the man back together and found I’d put the world back together too.’"

"TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood , And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay , In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
